CHUBB LAKE HISTORY

Chubb Lake - continuing story

From Reuben Schmunk Memory from 1965
Rev. Walter Reimer and myself dreamed about a camp in the Cariboo. Pastor Reimer was the pastor of the Church in Hixon ( now Lighthouse Community Church) and I pastored the Church in Quesnel ( Bether Pentecostal Tabernacle). For about a year we talked about a camp. In our hearts we felt it was essential that the camp be placed along side a lake, but there aren't that many lakes with accessible properties that one could call a beach property to be able to swim in in the Cariboo. Every time we heard of someplace we would take a look but it was either private property and not available or it would be steep mountainsides and there was no way you could build a camp on it.

We were to be with the Reimers at Hixon for Christmas Day. After dinner Walter said," You know Reuben, Graham McIntosh shared with me about a lake that's just a few miles from here that may be suitable to build a camp on and it is crown land on the west side. The east side is private land, but we should go and take a look at it. "
There was at least 2 feet of snow on the ground. It had thawed and frozen, thawed and frozen. so we drove up to the property and then we had to walk down the hill to the lake, across the north end of the lake and over to the west side. I weighted about 150-160 lbs so every second or third step I would break through the crust and was in snow up to my waist. I was constantly pulling myself out of the snow. Walter weighed quite a bit less and he was able to walk on top without breaking through. We did make it down the hill and across the north end and over to the west side. Once we saw the property and the lake we were just assured in our hearts that this was the property God had for us. And so the 2 of us joined hands and knelt down and claimed the property for the camp asking God to give us wisdom as we sought to acquire the property.
to be continued...

CHUBB LAKE HISTORY

Hello fellow bloggers, I am Marian Gillard and I am on the committee of
Chubb Lake Bible Camp as the Camp Historian.
For the past 4 years I have been researching, collecting stories and photographs
of those who have the same interest in this amazing camp as I do.
I am about to begin to put together the stories of the Pioneers who began
this camp 43 years ago. The book will continue with stories and photos
about the continuing years up to the present.
The title of the book will be our motto: CHANGING HEARTS, CHANGING LIVES
Please keep checking here for photos and stories which will be in the book. I'm just learning, please be patient. Let me know if you have read this blog.
